The Only Way To Start Is To Start..

When you try to start something new there can be the fear of starting in the wrong place. You don’t start because you think “what if I am not starting the right way?”

There is no right way. Only the right direction (which is something you are interested in. Interest is important). If you choose the right direction to start, you start. Sometimes with hesitation and sometimes without.

But why the hesitation sometimes?

Why is it hard to just start something?

It can be the fear that you might not be good at it, fear that you will fail or do badly, fear that you might not be capable of putting up with it.

It can be the fear of the unknown- you don’t know what might be the hurdles coming your way. The task is not familiar to you, so you don’t know what to do. You get scared.

Fear of the uncomfortable- It is easy to do things we are comfortable with, but doing new things is uncomfortable so we put them off.

But like there are reasons to be afraid of starting, there are also reasons for why you need to start.

Fear can kill the “can do” spirit.

Fear is the greatest killer of dreams that ever roamed the planet.

Imagine, there are some purposeful and worthwhile beginnings that never begun because of fear.

And when that fear stops you from starting something tell yourself “I WILL NOT GIVE UP! I WILL KEEP AT IT. I AM bigger than ANY FEAR.

AND JUST START.

Start because you don’t want to live with regrets, because you never know what you might find.

Start because it will give you self-confidence, because you only live once.

Start because even if you make mistakes along the way you will learn from them and grow, instead of staying where you are and never moving forward. Never learning. Never knowing what it would be like if you had just started.

And Start because no one ever accomplished anything by letting their fear conquer them.

You do not have to take big steps to start something, small baby ones are more than enough.

It doesn’t matter how slowly you move as long as you do not stop.

And finally START because

The only way to start, is to start.

Holmes grew up believing she would change the world, and she decided at the age of 19 that she would do that by developing a blood test that could identify a range of diseases with a drop of blood. She raised billions in funding for the company, had a gold chip advisory board, and was hailed as the next Steve Jobs on the cover of Fortune. But this self-made billionaire flew too close to the sun, and this podcast chronicles her rapid ascent, and even more rapid fall.

The story of Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos is an unbelievable tale of ambition and fame gone terribly wrong. How did the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire lose it all in the blink of an eye? How did her technology, meant to revolutionize health care, potentially put millions of patients at risk? And how did so many smart people get it so wrong along the way?

The Dropout podcast weaves Holmes’s story into a compelling narrative through interviews with key players, past media interviews, and depositions. By the end of it you can’t decide if Holmes is a mad genius or the world’s biggest con artist but either way, it’s one hell of a story.

THE PANDORA’S BOX

The ‘Myth of the Pandora’s Box’ is considered one of the most descriptive myths of human behaviour in Greek mythology. Ancient Greeks used this myth not only to instruct themselves about the weaknesses of humans, but also to explain several misfortunes of the human race.

Pandora was, according to the myth, the first woman on Earth. She was created by Gods; each one of them gave her a gift, thus, her name in Greek means “the one who bears all gifts”. She was created as a punishment to the mankind; her gifts were beautifully evil.

She was given a box or a jar, called “pithos” in Greek. Gods told her that the box contained special gifts from them but she was not allowed to open the box ever. Not being able to hold her curiosity anymore, she opened the box and all the illnesses and hardships that gods had hidden in the box started coming out. Pandora was scared, because she saw all the evil spirits coming out and tried to close the box as fast as possible, closing Hope inside.

The key question is how to interpret the myth. Is the imprisonment of hope inside the jar a benefit for humanity or a further bane?

If hope is another evil, then we should be thankful that hope was withheld. The idea being, hoping for or expecting a good life that we can never have, we prolong our torment. Thus it is better to live without hope and it is good that it remained in the jar.

But if hope is good, then it’s imprisonment makes life even more dreary and insufferable.

No one has the answer to why this ‘good’ hope was in the jar of evils in the first place.

“I love those days when you wake up and it’s already raining, it doesn’t stop all day. It makes everything so much more ethereal. I will probably never get over it.”
