RHYMES IN THE PRE PRIMARY..

Rhymes are incredibly powerful influencers in preschool development.

Rhymes help in improving listening, reading and other literacy skills. They help the children to learn words and sounds. Rhymes improve the expression and imagination of the tiny tots. When listening to rhyming songs and poems children create a picture in their mind thereby expanding their imagination.

Rhymes helps in developing speech, creativity, language, physical development, social and emotional development. Rhymes also help in cognitive development of the children.They learn many concepts through rhymes.

Role of Rhymes :

Speech: Rhymes help children to develop auditory skills such as discriminating between sounds and developing ear for the music of words. They listen to the sounds and try to sing along. The mouth and tongue muscles are developed as children recite the rhymes.

Reading : Rhymes provide an excellent foundation for reading skill.

Language development: Rhymes help children to assimilate and understand language.

Physical Development: Many rhymes involve movement, coordination of large muscles and fine motor muscles. Coordinating finger muscles plays an important role in the development of fine motor skill development.

Social and Emotional Development: Children sing and dance together with their peer group.They learn social skills through rhymes as they sing together in a group. It is a great group activity. Rhymes provide comfort and support to the tiny tots in uncomfortable situations. Children learn to share and care for others. They learn to control and express their emotions.
